Save some cash, buy on sales tax holiday

This weekend is prime time for filling that unfurnished apartment back-to-school must-haves.

For two days, the state is lifting the 6.25 percent sales tax on purchases less than $2,500.

If you’re in the market for new Xbox to start the semester, the holiday will net you a savings of $28.

Perhaps a new mode of transportation tops your college needs? Drop $1,000 on a superlight road bike and you’ll pocket the $62.50 in would-be tax.

Don’t feel like dealing with a mob of shoppers?

According to the state’s website, online orders are also tax exempt, but items must be ordered and paid for on Aug. 13 or 14.

For the partyer, Kegerator.com has keg refrigerators of all sizes ranging from a $500 single-tap cooler to a grandiose $2,000 double-brew dispenser. The site doesn’t charge for shipping.

By knocking off the sales tax on the $2,000 model, you save $125 that can go toward the keg to fill the fridge — the state alcohol tax is also waived.
