SEPTA Operator in Stable Condition Following Shooting

A SEPTA bus operator is in stable condition after being shot last night in the Grays Ferry section of the city.

Police said the shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. near Vare and Snyder avenues. The female operator was sitting inside the Route 79 during a layover when an unknown black male approached the bus and demanded that she open the door. When the operator refused, the male allegedly fired twice through the door, striking the operator once in the arm.

No passengers were on the bus at the time.

The 46-year-old woman drove the bus to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The shooter remains on the loose.
