For the next month, Bostonians are invited to view the city through the eyes of a French-born photographer.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the city’s Office of Arts, Tourism and Special Events announced yesterday a free exhibition at the Galleries at Boston City Hall that features images of daily life in Boston.
“In her work, Benedicte Lassalle finds beauty and art in the surroundings and objects of ordinary, everyday life,” a city spokesman said. “She is inspired by traces of individuality, timelessness and composition. Lassalle’s work, influenced by photographic journalism, aims to capture its subject’s sensations – to record rather than embellish.”
Lassalle said the photographs, taken with her phone, captures the essence of what she is experiencing in Boston.
“They serve as a commentary for my family and friends in France, giving them a window into my world. They allow me to view my surroundings with fresh eyes and perspective, bringing beauty to the images of the ‘everyday’ – a chain link fence, cobblestones, lobster claws or footprints in the sand,” Lassalle said.
“A beauty that can transform the ordinary into art and make the glistening streets or the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot palpable.”
The exhibit will run at the gallery, which is free and open to the public, until September 28.
