Hundreds of people were evacuated from an Orange Line train as smoke started to fill the tunnel it was in Thursday morning.
Commuters were led through a tunnel back to the North Station platform about 200 feet away as dozens of firefighters raced to the station to put out what was reported as a small grease fire.
A T spokesman said there was no fire, but rather a hose to a greaser line broke. Greasers are used to lubricate the rails.
“Smoke was generated when the train traveled over it,” said Joe Pesaturo, a T spokesman.
Service was restored and no serious injuries were reported.
