Heavy snowfall contributed to an accident involving 50 cars on the Pennsylvania turnpike Sunday, PennDOT said.
The incident began when a driver got out of his car after a minor accident near the Morgantown exit around 12:30 p.m.
That driver was hit and killed by a passing vehicle, which then caused a chain reaction of fender-bender crashes.
The accident closed the westbound side of the turnpike, adding to snow-related traffic woes, and was reported cleared around 6:15 p.m. by 511pa.com.
