We’ve all been there: A gadget runs out of power while we’re running around Boston, leaving us in a frantic search for an outlet or stealing electricity from an eatery.
Now, there are public charging stations in the heart of downtown.
Street Charge is a solar-powered charging station with built-in USB ports and various charging tips. Three took root on the Greenway on Tuesday, including at Dewey Square. The others are located near Rowes Wharf and the Greenway carousel.
Solar panels and lithium batteries allow for charging day or night. The stations were developed by Goal Zero and brought to the city by the Life is Good company and the Greenway Conservancy.
Chris Abbruzzese, marketing director for Goal Zero, said another station will be installed in Kendall Square likely next week.
Last year, charging stations in the form of a seat, dubbed theseat-e,debuted along the Greenway after being developed by the MIT Media Lab.
