Red Line passengers who travel through South Station in the evenings are warned of extended night time closures of the station's escalators and stairs for the next few weeks.
On Dec. 19, the station started closing the entryway at 9 p.m., and reopening it around 5 a.m. daily. The closures will continue until Jan. 5, with the exception of Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1.
During the closures, South Station will have engineering and security staff on hand to assist as needed, and travelers will be re-routed, according to officials.
“We thank all of the commuters and travelers of South Station for their patience during this exciting time of transformation for the Station. Travelers will be redirected and we do not expect any disruption of service due to the construction,” said Mark Smith, Market Managing Direction, Equity Office.
