One of the state’s most wanted, high risk sex offenders was caught at a Boston bar Tuesday night.

Umar Shabazz, 54, was arrested at the Tremont Street establishment by the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section on Tuesday night.

Shabazz, who is a Level 3 sex offender, has three warrants out of Worcester District Court, police said. He was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender, possession with intent to distribute drugs and refusing to provide a DNA sample, authorities said.

Police said that Shabazz was convicted of rape, kidnapping and armed robbery in Suffolk Superior Court in 1980. At that time his name was Samuel Pleas, but he changed his name while in jail.

Police said he failed to register as a sex offender upon his release.

He has also been convicted of assault and battery with a knife, armed robbery, resisting arrest and multiple drug charges.
