A pair of ImprovBoston comedians recently debuted a new web series, showcasing their quirky comedy, and slipping a slightly unsettling scenario into the minds of anyone who considers their mom’s goodies off-limits.

The premise of StepFriendz” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen> is simple, albeit a little awkward – a guy marries his best friend’s mother.

“We thought it would be funny if I played his step father. We kicked the idea around for a while, then in December we wrote it and found people to help us shoot it, edit it and be extras,” said Brian Donnelly, 31, who has done improvisational comedy for about a decade.

“There are so many good web series going on these days; we wanted to get in on that action,” he said.

The first show, entitled “Telepathic Flu Shot,” premiered on the pair’s StepFriendz YouTube channel Monday.

“So far its been really positive,” Donnelly said of its reception. “Everyone said it’s really funny, but definitely weird.”

Episodes are based out of Donnelly’s Arlington apartment, which sets the stage for comedic banter than bounces between typical bro talk and father-son scoldings.

“We thought the dynamic was pretty funny, and we hope to have crazy adventures going forward,” said comedian Mike Varejao, 27. “This has given us a chance to be very strange with our comedy. We do a lot of improv, but once we do a show it’s just over. The audience experienced it, but it’s just done. I think this gives us legs, a chance to go somewhere.”

The duo has filmed five episodes, and is in the process of writing more. The next episode, which will be called “Secret Softcore Magazine,” will be uploaded Monday at www.stepfriendz.com” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>.
