Suffolk beefs up anti-DUI efforts

After a half-dozen recent wrong-way drunk driving arrests on Long Island, Suffolk County authorities are cracking down with enhanced patrols and additional checkpoints.

Executive Steve Levy announced yesterday that six additional officers and a sergeant will augment the existing 10-person holiday DWI team and a police helicopter will focus on highway activity.

“We as the community have to step in,” said Tom McCoy, affiliate executive director of MADD.
