Surveillance video shows West Village hate crime

Police are searching for the person who allegedly beat a gay man outside a West Village McDonald’s on Sunday.

WEST VILLAGE – Police are searching for the person who allegedly beat a gay man outside a West Village McDonald’s on Sunday.


Damian Furtch, 26, at left, said he was attacked outside the restaurant on Sixth Avenue early Sunday morning. He speculated that his pink shoelaces might have attracted attention from the attackers, who he said yelled gay slurs.


The NYPD is investigating the incident as a hate crime.


“I thought I was safe in the city I loved,” Furtch wrote on Facebook.
