UPDATE:Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad technicians are on the scene at Babson College and will dispose of the suspicious device found at the Executive Conference Center earlier this morning.

“Very shortly they will be conducting a controlled detonation of the suspicious device,” Babson said in a statement. “Some people on campus may hear a muffled noise, but be advised that the sound is the result of a secure, controlled detonation in a safe area. Further updates will be posted on the emergency preparedness website as well as on the Babson Info Line (781-239-4636). As soon as everything is ‘all clear’ we will send out another message stating such.”

Babson College announced in a tweet on Friday morning that authorities are investigating a suspicious device on campus.

According to the message, the item is located near the Babson Executive Conference Center.

“Stay away from location till further notice,’’ the school instructed in a tweet.

The school noted at 10:30 am that the package would be detonated by a bomb squad.

“Please be advised that people on campus may hear a muffled noise due to the controlled detonation,” Babson said in a statement.

The MetroWest Daily News reported the item was found by a maintenance worker about 7 a.m. near the conference center. Bomb technicians and a robot have been called to the scene to investigate.

Wellesley Police Chief Terrence Cunningham added that while people on campus aren’t in any imminent danger, “it’s something we should at least take a look at.”

Babson is located in the suburb of Wellesley, which is located about 15 miles outside the city of Boston.
