TD Gardens philanthropic arm, Garden Neighborhood Charities, kicked off the holiday season Tuesday with its annual fall event, Table of Friends, now in its 18th year.
Volunteers from the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics joined city and state officials to handeout warm meals to Boston-area’s homeless population. Garden Neighborhood Charities also gave a $5,000 donation to Friends of Bostons Homeless.
This year, 700 pounds of turkey, 700 pounds of stuffing, 25 gallons of gravy, 400 pounds of mashed potatoes, 200 pounds. of carrots, 75 pounds of green beans, 106 dozen rolls and 8 gallons of cranberry sauce were served.
According to organizers, Table of Friends began in 1995 as a way to open the doors of the TD Garden to members of the community.
