Teen dies after Brooklyn shooting

After a brief reprieve from murder last weekin New York City, a young man was shot to death in Brooklyn on Monday night.

The 18-year-old, who has not yet been identified by police, suffered a gunshot wound to the back near 53rd Street and Avenue J in the Flatlands neighborhood about 10:25 p.m., police said.

A private car took the teen to Kings County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made. The motive and exact nature of the shooting are still under investigation, police said.

The shooting is believed to be the first murder committed in the city since Oct. 6, when 49-year-old Emmanuel Capers was found shot to death in his car about 5:45 p.m., according to police and the mayor’s office.
