PHILADELPHIA. A Temple University student was identified yesterday by authorities as one of four people killed on a double-decker bus that left Center City bound for Toronto and crashed Saturday morning in upstate New York.

Kevin Coffey, 19, of Manhattan, Kansas, died when the Megabus, which had left Philadelphia Friday evening, rammed into an overpass while traveling outside Syracuse, N.Y.

Two men from Asia and an unidentified woman also died while about 20 other passengers were injured. The bus was minutes away from a scheduled 30-minute stop at a rest area off Interstate 81. The driver of the bus was familiar with the Philadelphia to Toronto route but may have missed an exit ramp that led to the crash, according to reports quoting a Megabus official.

Temple President Ann Weaver Hart said yesterday that Coffey was in the university’s Honors program. “The loss of one of our students is a loss for the entire university community,” she said in a statement.
