A Framingham man led state police on a brief chase early Sunday after troopers found him allegedly asleep behind the wheel of his car as it was stopped in the high speed lane of I-93.

Troopers pulled up behind the Toyota Corolla just before 5 a.m. It was parked in the left lane of Interstate 93 northbound just before Exit 13 in Boston.

When the trooper went to investigate he found the driver, Eric Funes, 29, allegedly sleeping behind the wheel. When the trooper finally woke Funes, the driver took off up the highway.

Funes led troopers on a low-speed chase along 93 until troopers deployed a tire deflation device that punctured three of Funes’ tires. Funes finally stopped just before the Tip O’Neill tunnel, state police said.

Funes was arrested and charged with second offense drunken driving, failure to stop for police, driving to endanger and a marked lanes violation. He posted bail and is due in court Tuesday.
