Tufts student wins T contest

As soon as Timothy Fleck learned he won the T’s GM4ADay Contest on Tuesday, he went on Facebook to ask friends and family what questions they had for real MBTA GM, Rich Davey.

Fleck’s father wants to know why the service schedule isn’t altered to account for his train’s daily 10-minute delay, and a friend asked when the Green Line Extension to Medford and Somerville will be complete.

“Most importantly, I want to know why the T stops running so early on the weekends,” the 27-year-old Tufts grad student said.

Fleck will spend Friday with Davey, including taking a tour of the Subway and Bus Operations Control Center and the Everett Repair shops. Fleck’s 150-word entry bested 173 other candidates.

“What I like about Tim is, he uses the MBTA every day and has a pretty wide breadth of usage, not only the subway but the commuter rail and bus service,” Davey said. “It’s just another opportunity to make the authority more transparent. I think we’ll learn as much from him as he will from us.”
