Two men from Israel were arrested in Crown Heights on Saturday after allegedly assaulting a 56-year-old man.

Samuel Brendler, 21, and Ahrone Kofkase, 22, were charged with assault as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon after punching the man, who is African American, in the face and hitting him with garbage cans, police said.

The attack happened in the area ofAlbany Avenue and Montgomery Street. The men also tried to steal the man’s dog.

Brendler and Kofkase, who are from Israel, are being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
