A man and a woman died after an apparent jump from the George Washington Bridge on Monday morning, authorities said.

Workers on the lower level of the bridge saw an object go past them from an upper deck and heard a splash around 11:20 a.m., according to Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

One of the workers looked down into the Hudson River and saw the couple floating in the water. Earlier, a worker observed the pair walking together on the bridge, the NYPD said.

The pair had floated several hundred feet and were eventually pulled from the river to the West 125th Street Pier, where medics performed CPR before ambulances arrived, officials said. Theywere rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Neither of them had identification, but officials believe they are between the ages of 35 and 45. Investigators think the man and woman knew each other.

The suspected jumpers plunged into the water from the north walkway about halfway across the George Washington Bridge. No suicide note was found and no car was left unattended on the bridge,Pentangelo said.

The investigation is ongoing.
