Tyrone Cummings: Man shot by police dies

A 25-year-old Dorchester man who got into a gunfight with Boston Police last month died at Boston Medical Center yesterday.

Tyrone Cummings was shot multiple times by officers who responded to Dorchester home June 14 for a domestic violence incident.

Police said a woman called them from the house and said her boyfriend assaulted her and threatened to kill her.

When police arrived another woman, believed to be the domestic violence victim’s sister, was outside with Cummings. She was hit in the leg during the volley of gunfire.

Officer Shawn Marando, 46, a 13-year veteran, was hit in the leg during the confrontation.

At the time of the incident, authorities said Cummings was “armed to the teeth.”

Police said in a statement today that medical personnel recovered a second gun and a bag of ammunition from him after his admission to Boston Medical Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
