The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers will hold a protest against the proposed School District of Philadelphia's budget proposal in front of the district's headquarters on North Broad Street Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Officials are protesting the so-called "Doomsday budget," which with a $304 million budget deficit, offers extreme cutbacks.
"The SRC is about to pass a school budget that virtually eliminates every program and service our schools provide to our city’s children,” said PFT President Jerry Jordan in a statement. “It’s time to put an end to 13 years of austerity budgets and reductions in public school funding.”
The protest is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. The School Reform Commission will hold its public meeting at 5:30 p.m.
