Unvaccinated students sent back home

A dozen students were turned away from North Babylon High School on Monday because they didn’t have proof of their immunizations.

A Health Department vaccination audit by the state meant that 150 schools were randomly selected to be surveyed for compliance statewide, like North Babylon. The audit is geared toward ensuring that schools are meeting state law, which requires students to be vaccinated to protect others.

Students from Selden Middle School were also taken aside after they didn’t have confirmation of their vaccinations, and were taught apart from other classmates.

School officials said they won’t be allowed back into class until the provide proof of their necessary shots.
