An off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper is expected to be arraigned from his hospital bed Monday afternoon after he allegedly was high and drunk when he crashed into the car of an on-duty fellow trooper.

Shawn D’Amato, 43, was expected to be arraigned sometime Monday after he was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for his injuries, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

D’Amato allegedly crashed his car into the cruiser of a trooper who had pulled over a driver along Route 1 in Revere at about 1 a.m. Monday, state police said.

Trooper John Phonesavanh was sitting in his cruiser writing a citation with his emergency lights on when the crash occurred.

The cruiser was forced into the vehicle Phonesavanh had pulled over. Phonesavanh and the 29-year-old driver from Chelsea he had pulled over suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
