A woman was killed after she was hit by a collapsing car port in Weymouth Thursday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., Weymouth police and fire personnel were called to a home on Harlem Road where a car port had collapsed, police said.
A 29-year-old woman was struck by the falling structure. She was taken to South Shore Hospital, police said shortly after the incident.
The woman later died at the hospital, according to WBZ.
Authorities were investigating the cause of the collapse.
The incident happened on the same day that state officials issued a warning to people to safely clear snow from roofs, especially flat roofs or ones that are slightly pitched. The forecasted rain for Thursday night and Friday was expected to increase the weight of the snow that has piled up on rooftops throughout the state this winter.
