A 38-year-old Upper Darby woman punched her boyfriend's 9-year-old son in the face Sunday outside a grocery store, police said today.
Blanca Herandez, of the 7200 block of Glenthorne, was arrested and charged after she ambushed the boy, who was shopping with his mother and brother, said Michael Chitwood, police superintendent.
The boy, who lives in Philadelphia, shopped with his mother and his 4-year-old brother around 6:30 p.m. at the H-Mart in Upper Darby, Chitwood said. While his mother spoke with the manager, the boy left the store and stood outside when Hernandez, who was also inside, exited and grabbed him by the shirt and punched him square in the face.
Hernandez tried to flee but was stopped by store security.
The boy, who lives on the 4900 block of North 4th Street, was treated for a swollen cheek and bloodshot eye. He was released shortly after from Delaware County Hospital, police said.
Hernandez was charged with simple assault and harassment. She was also found in possession of two other social security cards.
"It's gotta be some type of family stuff," Chitwood said.
