A judge in upstate New York was beaten senseless with a toilet lid as he was locking up for the night on Saturday evening, AP reports.
Judge Roger Barto of Waterloo was leaving the courthouse when he was choked and bashed in the head from behind with a toilet tank lid that had been disposed of amid renovations to the building.
Barto is being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where his condition is listed as "guarded."
No arrests have been made. Barto had just finished presiding over an arraignment for traffic violations when he was struck, but police say it is unlikely the attack had any connection to the day's arraignment.
