Philadelphia police on Wednesday released heartbreaking video of a man following an 81-year-old woman from a South Broad Street check cashing shop July 17 and brutally robbing her several blocks away.
Investigators said the woman was cashing a check inside the Western Union at 1123 S. Broad St. when the suspect first appeared to take note of her.
The suspect lingered around the pawn window as the victim completed her transaction, then followed her from the building.
He can even be seen on tape holding the door to the shop open for his unwitting victim.
Surveillance cameras caught the woman walking on the 1200 block of South Broad Street as the suspect lurked behind.
Police said once she reached the 1300 block of South Juniper Street, the man grabbed her, threw her to the ground and snatched a wallet that was hanging from her neck.
He then fled on foot west on Juniper Street.
The suspect is described as a black male of about 30 years of age.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and dark-colored shorts and shoes.
