Another violent attack near Harvard University has Cambridge residents on high alert.
On Monday about 8:30 pm, a man walking on Garden Street near Cambridge Common had a knife held to his throat by an attacker who demanded money. When he resisted, two other men joined in on the attack, kicking and punching him.
The victim was able to break free and escape without serious injury, according to the Harvard University Police Department.
Monday's attack wasn't the first in the area. Two recent assaults near the university have brought out heightened security in recent weeks.
Because Monday's attack did not happen on Harvard territory, it's being investigated by the Cambridge Police Department.
Police advise residents to travel in groups in well-lit areas or designated pathways, while staying alert without the distraction of cell phones or headphones.
