A violent weekend around Philadelphia left four dead and two injured in reported assaults.
The dead this weekend include two women found executed inside a Holmesburg home and a male who was hit by a car and then shot to death by occupants of the vehicle.
Assaults reported this weekend include a man who was beaten after attacking cars and yelling that he was the Messiah due to a new medication, and a 45-year-old man who allegedly attacked and threatened to kill his 78-year-old mother with a gun, so she shot him first.
The first homicide of the weekend occurred on Friday on the edge of Juniata Park.
A 37-year-old male was shot while walking in a driveway on the 1500 block of E. Luzerne Street around 5:40 p.m.
Police say that an unknown black male approached the victim, who has not been identified, and shot him twice, hitting him in the head, before fleeing.
The victim was brought to Temple Hospital and pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m.
Later that evening, police were called to the 5700 block of McMahon Avenue in North Philly at 9:05 p.m. by a 78-year-old woman who said her son, 45, entered the house drunk and threatened to strangle her.
The mother reportedly barricaded herself in an upstairs bedroom. When her son shoved his way into the room he pointed a handgun at her and said, "I'm gonna shoot you, bitch," according to the police report.
Instead, the mother picked up a gun on the bed and fired multiple times at the defendant, hitting him once in the stomach. He fell into the hallway and fired once at his mother, hitting the wall. The mother then barricaded herself in her room again until police arrived.
The son, who has not been identified, was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center and will be charged with aggravated assault.
On Saturday, at 5:32 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired from a home on the 4700 block of Vista Street in Holmesburg.
The door of the house was open. Officers found two women, 47, both dead from gunshots to the head.
One woman, 47, was lying on the living room couch. The second victim, 54, was lying on the floor of the second-floor bedroom. The victims have not been identified.
Lastly, at 3:59 a.m. this morning, police saw a half-naked man thrown out of a black sedan, then being punched and left on the street as the vehicle fled.
Police interviewed the 57-year-old victim, who told them due to an adverse effect of his new medication he had become delusional and was running around banging on cars and "proclaiming to be the Messiah," according to police.
The victim allegedly told police that he attacked the car, leading them to shove him to the ground.
He also suffers from PTSD and depression.
The victim, who was not identified, was transported to Jefferson Hospital for treatment of a busted lip.
Police said all parties to the incident were cleared by investigation and released.
