WalkBoston's annual fundraiser walk that was set for Wednesday has been rescheduled due to ice and slippery conditions around the North Bank pedestrian bridge.

The walk will happen April 8 at 5 p.m., but a reception that was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Microsoft NERD Center in Kendall Square will go on as planned.MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott is expected to speak at the celebration.

"Last March it was 90 degrees. It's crazy; we've never had this kind of weather in late March," said WalkBoston Executive Director Wendy Landman.

Next month's walk is expected to draw about 200 participants to North Station for a hike over the new North Bank pedestrian bridge, which curves under the Zakim Bridge and over the MBTA commuter rail tracks.

The walk not only raises money for the organization, which promotes safe conditions for pedestrians, but will celebrate what organizers describe as “an essential link” between the riverfront parks.

"When we get this late snow then it rains on top of it, it's just slush," Landman said. "I’d say we’re all ready for some nice walking weather."

It costs $25 to walk; interested participants can register here.
