Transit Police said they have secured an arrest warrant forJames Tilton, a 57-year-old Wilmington man who allegedly pinned the blame on his estranged brother after drunkenly crashing his car in a bus-only Silver Line tunnel.

Police said Tilton’s brother, William, was charged after he gave officers personal identifiers that included a Social Security number, date of birth and address belonging to William Tilton.

“The information was submitted to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System, as is customary, and the information was processed,” Transit Police said in a statement.

On Saturday, police were able to positively identify James as the suspect.

“Due to human error, there was a breakdown in the verification process. We are conducting a thorough evaluation of our policies and procedures and will take whatever corrective action is necessary to prevent something like this from occurring again,” Transit Police said.

Once arrested, James will be charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and giving a false name, according to police.
