Water break forces apartment evacuation

Nearly 1,000 residents of a downtown apartment building were sent out into the cold and snow early yesterday morning after a pipe burst, sending thousands of gallons of water throughout the upper floors of the high-rise structure.

Nearly 1,000 residents of a downtown apartment building were sent out into the cold and snow early yesterday morning after a pipe burst, sending thousands of gallons of water throughout the upper floors of the high-rise structure.

The entire building was evacuated and residents of Archstone Apartments on Washington Street were put on MBTA buses and were given emergency shelter at the Josiah Quincy School, according to fire officials.
