Williamsburg bike thefts skyrocket

According to police data, bike thefts in Williamsburg have quadrupled in the past year, a report in DNAinfo found.

Thefts have increased rapidly, from 24 thefts in the first half of 2011 to 96 thefts in the first half of 2012 in the neighborhood.

The 94th Precinct’s commanding officer Deputy Inspector Terence Hurson told DNAinfo thefts are happening everywhere in North Brooklyn and insisted that people get their bikes tagged with identification codes.
