A 34-year-old woman was indicted in the murder of a woman shot near an East Harlem housing project where five mayoral candidates slept days earlier.
Michele "Mohawk" Graham was indicted for second-degree murder and possession of a weapon Tuesday after she allegedly shot a 23-year-old woman near the Lincoln Houses last week.
Olivia Brown was shot in the right hand and the left groin just before 3:40 a.m. on July 23, police said.
The shooting occurred on Park Avenue north of E. 132nd Street, minutes from the Lincoln Houses, a public housing development where five Democratic mayoral candidates slept days earlier to highlight NYCHA conditions.
Former City Comptroller and mayoral hopeful Bill Thompson visited the Lincoln houses again just hours after the shooting.
"They're concerned about safety," Thompson said of the residents last weeek, noting security cameras could prevent crime. If elected, Thompson said he would put "someone who can better manage" NYCHA than its current chairman, John Rhea.
He added residents spoke to him about the lack of police in the area.
"There were a lot of police on Saturday when we were there and as soon as we left, the police left with us," he said last week.
