The lifeless body of woman was found in front of the L Street Bathhouse on Carson Beach in South Boston on Thursday.
Police received a call about the body on Thursday morning, shortly after it was found in the shallow waters on William Day Boulevard, the Boston Globe reports.
The woman was declared dead on arrival.
A spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley told the Boston Globe that the cause of death is being determined in an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office.
Investigators say there were no obvious signs on trauma on the body, which had clearly been in the water for a significant amount of time. They are currently working on identifying the body and notifying the woman's family, while the Boston Police homicide unit continues their investigation.
