ZIP code with Midtown and Koreatown home to most national chains in the city

The ZIP code containing Midtown and Koreatown has the most national food and retail chains of any neighborhood in the city, according to a new report.

The 10001 ZIP code, where the Manhattan Mall is located, has 184 chains, according toa report released Tuesday by theCenter for an Urban Future.

The report found that, overall, the number of chain stores in the city increased only half a percent in the last year, the smallest expansion since 2008. Between 2011 and 2012, the number of chains grew 2.4 percent.

Despite having the highest number of national chains—2,779 total— the number of chain locations decreased on Manhattan. Brooklyn saw the largest increase in chains since last year, with 2.8 percent.

With 515 shops, Dunkin’ Donuts is the first national chain with more than 500 locations in New York City and has the most locations for the sixth consecutive year.

T-Mobile closed the most locations in the past year, the report found, with only 161 locations remaining in the five boroughs.
