Valentine’s Day probably set your dining budget back a pretty penny. Luckily, Restaurant Week is upon us beginning today through March 6, and there are a record 341 venues taking part.

With three-course prix fixe menus going for $25 at lunch and $38 at dinner, it’s a chance to test drive fine dining spots around the city before making your parents splash out for it when they come to visit.

We picked five restaurants to check out while you can afford to — and while there are reservations left.

Butter Midtown: The double-cut pork chops are, alas, not on the Restaurant Week menu atAlex Guarnaschelli’s American spot, but we’ll struggle through with the fish and short ribs.

Empellon Cocina:You’ve had the finger-licking good tacos at Empellon Taqueria, now see what Alex Stupak cooks up when you’re trying to impress a date at his upscale Mexican spot.

Tavern on the Green:The re-revamped menu by New American pioneer Jeremiah Tower nods to old New York while keeping things interesting.

Mr. Chow:Take in a hand-pulled noodle show at the original elevated Chinese food spot that’s still got it, 36 years after opening in Midtown.

Chez Josephine: Everything about this Theater District restaurant is over the top, so take in the Jazz Age atmosphere and be surprised by the quality fare for this part of town.
