A 62-year-old man claims he was attacked with a crowbar in a New Jersey parking lot for wearing a Donald Trump shirt.

The victim was walking on West Passaic Avenue in Bloomfield, New Jersey, just before 6 p.m. Wednesday when a man in a car questioned the Trump supporter about his shirt and cursed at him, North Jersey.com reported.

According to police, the suspect followed the victim into a Friendly’s parking lot and got out of the car before attacking him with a crowbar.

A Friendly’s employee reported a different sequence of events, according to NBC New York. The waitress said the 62-year-old man called the suspect a slur and told him he shouldn’t be at the restaurant. After separating the men, she said the man who was verbally attacked waited in the parking lot for the man in the Trump shirt to come out where he subsequently assaulted him with the crowbar.

The man in the Trump shirt was reportedly treated at the scene for injuries on his forearms, hands and thighs. The suspect left the parking lot before authorities arrived.
