7 train extension opens on Sept. 13

The 7 train extension is coming — for real this time.

The long-anticipated extension to 34th Street, Hudson Yards, will open on Sept. 13, Dr. Michael Horodniceanu, president of MTA Capital Construction,said during aboard meeting on Monday.

The 1.5 mile addition culminatesat 11th Avenue, opening up the far west side of Manhattan to straphangers.

Construction on the $2.4 billion project started in 2007.

The MTA has been training dispatchers for the line over the past few weeks.

The MTA also announced Mondaya $205.8 millioncontract to add communications-based train control (CBTC)on the Queens Boulevardline. The feature, whichworks to better control train traffic virtually,is currently used only on the L and 7 lines.
