A handful of people were injured just before rush hour Monday afternoon after an MTA bus crashed into an overpass on the FDR Drive in Manhattan, according to reports.

The incident happened just before 4:15 p.m., ABC7 New York reported, at 34th Street and FDR Drive in Midtown.

ABC7 added that according to the MTA a QM11 bus was entering the FDR Drive from 34th Street when the driver allegedly claimed he lost control of the bus and hit the overpass.

Nine people were confirmed injured, ABC7 reported, and three of them were taken to a nearby hospital. Six refused medical help and none sustained life-threating injuries.

According to NBC4 New York, witnesses saw people coming off the bus holding their necks and one person was seen being taken out on a stretcher.

A passenger on the bus – which goes from downtown Manhattan to Queens — told NBC4 that the bus driver told the passengers that he lost control and seemed “very remorseful and apologetic.”

The FDNY tweeted photos from the scene showing firefighters removing an injured passenger from the bus.
