A Guy Fieri bar crawl hits midtown Saturday
GETTY

If you find yourself in Times Square Saturday afternoon (what are you doing, go home immediately) and you come across a gang of visibly intoxicated folks with neon yellow spiked hair, Gatorz shades, questionable bling, yelling “Welcome to Flavortown!” — that would be FieriCon. As in, Guy Fieri, the love him/can’t stand him host of Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” and restaurateur of midtown’s can’t-miss foodie destination Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar.
The first annual “bar crawl in his honor,” as the official website describes it, kicks off at The Hog Pit on W. 26th, making stops at watering holes along the way before closing out the fan fest at Fieri’s own joint.
Founder Dave Gold told Gothamist he got the idea for FieriCon when he was hanging with his friend one Sunday afternoon, “watching Food Network, eating Chinese food as we normally do, and we were like, ‘How fun would it be to dress up like Guy Fieri one day? Walk around, talk like him, act like him?’”
Kind of an odd aspiration, but certainly there are worse ideas like, say, Santacon. We’ll take roving drunk Guy Fieri clones over wasted drunk bro Santas any day… we think?
According to the organizers, Fieri enthusiasts can join the crawl at anytime; and while a Guy-inspired lewk is not mandatory, “it is strongly encouraged.” Gold even dedicates a page with suggestions and links to wigs, leather bracelets, and X-Loop sunglasses you can buy to really nail the look. Oh, but if you’re gonna rock the shades, “they must be worn backwards.”
