An architect fell to his death from the roof of a 47-story building in midtown Manhattan, authorities said.

Bruno Travalja, 52, owner of a New Jersey architectural firm, was examining an area where a glass barrier for rooftop terrace was to be installed on Thursday when he fell, according to NY 1 News.

Travalja was wearing a safety harness, but it apparently wasn’t secured to anything on the building at 135 W. 52nd Street. He approached the ledge and attempted to prevent some building materials from falling when he lost his footing.

The city’s Department of Buildings is investigating the accident.
