Looking for an apartment? Mayor Bill de Blasio has a vacancy.
One of the real estate holdings De Blasio and his wife own is atwo-family home in Park Slope that is described on the real estate site Streeteasy as “Sunny & Sweet” and “enchanting” with a “charming Victorian front porch.” The available one-bedroom on 11th Street, owned by the mayor and his wife, Chirlane McCray, is going for $1,825 a month. That upstairs unit will be available in May to nonsmokers without pets, according to the ad. The previous tenants moved out to buy their own home, a mayoral spokesman told Politico. De Blasio’s mother lived in the building from 2004 until her death in 2007. De Blasio initially set rent at $1,800. The rent was raised $25 in June 2015, right as the mayor was talking about a “historic” rent freeze on one-year leases, Politico reported. In 2014, the downstairs apartment was fetching $2,750, but Politico was unable to obtain a current figure on that unit from the mayor’s office.
