Brandon Marshall trade from Jets to Eagles? Josh Gordon to the Vikings?

While speculation season in the NFL is typically reserved for late February and early March, with fan-bases for each and every franchise begging and pleading with their owners to open up their checkbooks in free agency, the final week in October also offers up a brief window of fun conjecture.

The NFL trade deadline is this coming Tuesday, Nov. 1, and while major deals rarely go down because of salary cap restrictions and the fact that it’s damn near impossible for football players to adjust to a brand new system midway through a season, we could see some movement in the next week. The MMQB’sAlbert Breer released a few big names on Thursday that he thought could maybe, possibly, be moved. Here’s the likelihood it happens with these two major receivers.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Jets

Unlike previous regimes, this Jets front office seems to be comprised of a group of realists (always a good thing in sports). New York beat Baltimore this past Sunday, but is looking up at the Patriots (6-1), Bills (4-3) and even the Dolphins (3-4) in the AFC East. In other words, despite that glimmer of hope against the Ravens, they aren’t making the playoffs this season.

The Jets desperately need to get younger as nearly allof their key players (Matt Forte, Darrelle Revis, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Marshall) are long in the tooth. Marshall will be 33-years-old next March and the track record for receivers beyond that age is not great.

An obvious fit for Marshall would be in Philly, where there have already been whispers that Eagles bossHowie Roseman wants in on a solid veteran receiver. What would it take for Roseman to get his hands on Marshall? Not as much as you might think. A good comparison is the 2010 trade of Randy Moss from the Patriots to the Vikings. The Pats received a third round pick from the Vikings and sent a seventh round pick, along with Moss, to Minnesota.

Likelihood Marshall gets traded: 7.8 percent

Josh Gordon, WR, Browns

The Browns still hold the rights to Gordon. Just before Gordon checked himself into rehab, the Browns were heavily shopping him around the league – asking for a “first or second day” draft pick – according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It obviously wouldn’t take anything more than a seventh rounder at this juncture to land Gordon as the Browns were planning to release him anyway.

“We’re moving on,” Browns head coach Hue Jackson told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in late September. “We need to close that chapter right now.”

Breer mentioned Minnesota as a possible destination for Gordon as Norv Turner was his offensive coordinator in Cleveland during Gordon’s best season as a pro. There’s no way Gordon would be good to go this season, obviously.
