A 17-year-old boy in the Bronx lost his life Thursday evening in what police are investigating to be a possible accident while he was hanging out with friends.

On May 19 at 5:04 p.m. police responded to the call of an individual shot inside of 819 Astor Ave., according to authorities. Upon arriving, police found Ackeem Davis with a gunshot wound to the torso.

Davis was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

According to ABC7 New York, the teen was inside his apartment with friends who were “play fighting” and wrestling while a gun was nearby. The firearm then accidentally went off.

After being shot, Davis allegedly managed to get into the hallway of the building and collapsed, according to the New York Daily News.

Police are interviewing three men and a woman who were in the room at the time of the shooting and are also looking to question other people who might have left the home, ABC7 reported.

Authorities were also checking Facebook as part of the investigation and found a video posted about 40 minutes prior to the shooting that showed a group of teens smoking and listening to music in the home, according to Daily News.

Friends and family got together Thursday night in front of the Bronx building for a candlelight memorial for the teen.
