A Brooklyn man who was shot trying to protect his wife from a gunman Sunday has died, the New York Daily News reported.

Dion James, 30, was shot in the back twice just after 4 a.m. Sunday after trying to break up a fight between his wife and the gunman on Franklin Avenue and Union Street in Crown Heights, police said.

James was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Cops said it's not immediately clear what the argument was about, but investigators are questioning James' wife.
