Brooklyn’s iconic Smorgasburg expands to Queens this summer

Smorgasburg is opening a new market in Queens this summer – and plans to encourage a distinctly Queens flavor in their new spot.

Brooklyn’s trendiest food market is officially coming to Queens in the coming months. The new market will be located in Long Island City, in a 7,500 square foot space with more indoor space to boot, the Gothamist reports.

“Doing a Smorgasburg about Queens reminds us of the moment before we started the Flea in 2007, with all the discovery, excitement (ours and prospective vendors), and new tastes and faces—from destination restaurants to entrepreneurial startups,” Brooklyn Flea co-founder Eric Demby told Gothamist.

Queens locals can browse the market every Saturday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. from July 11, when they open.

The offerings will include Woodside staple Papa’s Kitchen, Plant Love House from Elmhurst, Silk Cakes, and Mexican food flavors from La Esquina del Camaron, along with a famed street vendor from Jackson Heights known for hot arepas.

Gothamist also reports that Smorgasburg will have a temporary residency at Coney Island and outposts at Central Park and the South Street Seaport at the end of July.
