Chris Mullin, one of the all-time great players at St John’s University and native New Yorker, is said to return to the Red Storm as head coach.

Mullin doesn’t have any coaching experience at any level, but considering he is one of the greatest players to ever play for St. Johns, the hope is for him to be able to recruit highly ranked players and rebuild the program.

Since retiring from the NBA, Mullin has been working in the front offices of the Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors.

If Mullin takes the job, he would be replacing coach Steve Lavin, who announced he was leaving the team last week after five seasons.

Bringing Mullin onboard as coach would automatically make the school relevant again and all eyes would be on him to turn the team around and make them a top contender.

The Red Storm had a record of 20-12 during the 2014-2015 and was eliminated in the round of 64 by the San Diego State Aztecs.
