Police said Miriam Velez-Samayoa, 28, was killed in the Jamaica apartment on 90th Avenue early Saturday.

Officers and emergency personnel arrived at around 4:04 a.m. to calls of a possible assault in progress when they found Velez-Samayoa, 28, in her bathroom with severe burns across her entire body.

Paramedics declared Velez-Samayoa dead at the scene.

It was unclear whether she died before or after the fire was set; the city's medical examiner's office was still determining the exact cause of Velez-Samayoa's death.

The New York Daily News reported that Velez-Samayoa and Leon planned on going to Guatamala to visit Velez-Samayoa's mother, and that Leon might already be on a flight out of the country although its unclear if he boarded the scheduled flight.

NYPD asks that anyone with information in regards to either Leon's whereabouts or Velez-Samayoa's death is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
