New York State is ready to show its support for its booming craft beverage community.
On Thursday, Governor Cuomo delivered on a promise made at the Wine, Spirits & Cider Summit by announcing the signing of a new craft beverage law that cuts “burdensome requirements placed on producers” and eases “restrictions regarding the marketing of craft products.” The legislation, which takes effect in 30 days, will give New York-based manufacturers the opportunity to: conduct tastings and offer service by the bottle or glass; increase the retail outlets where they can sell products; and obtain a permit to operate a branch office, “eliminating the need for a separate license.” The state will also increase the previous production cap, allowing manufacturers to create more without dealing with incremental fees. “This new law builds upon this administration’s ongoing efforts to promote this industry by cutting red tape, reducing burdensome regulations and removing artificial barriers that stifled growth,” said Cuomo. “New York is truly open for business.” In addition to the progressive Craft New York Act, Cuomo launched the $3 million Craft Beverage Grant programs, geared to provide support and resources for the burgeoning industry, as well as increase tourism by endorsing events related to craft beverages.
